Belmont Hill Junction: Campaigners Call for Safer Crossings

Liberal Democrats are campaigning for major changes in Lewisham Town Centre to provide safer crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.

Most of us know the junction at Lee Bridge - where Belmont Hill meets Lewis Grove.

This busy crossroads sees multiple bus routes making all kinds of turns and can be difficult to get across. The Lewis Grove side doesn't even have "green man" signals for pedestrians to cross safely.

"This junction is clearly dangerous and needs to be redesigned," says Blackheath ward Lib Dem, Peter Ramrayka.

"The issue was raised at a recent council meeting but Lewisham Council say they are not responsible. The Lib Dems will be asking our London Assembly team to raise it with Sadiq Khan and TfL.

"With so much money being spent on Lewisham Town Centre, it makes no sense to leave such a hazardous junction in the middle of it," says Peter.

Local residents have welcomed moves to make the borough more walkable but this junction seems like a major omission that could mess up the whole project.

Despite holding power at the Town Hall and London City Hall, Labour politicians have clearly not been working together on this.
