Pint & Politics (January)

Special Relationships

For decades, the "Special Relationship" has been the bedrock of British foreign policy—an unspoken guarantee that, in an uncertain world, London and Washington stand shoulder to shoulder. But as we enter 2026, is that bedrock beginning to crumble?

The geopolitical landscape has shifted. From Washington’s recent unilateral military action in Venezuela and the capture of Nicolás Maduro, to the transactional "20-point plan" regarding Ukraine and Putin, the "America First" doctrine is no longer just a campaign slogan—it is an active global reality. Perhaps most jarring are the intensifying conversations surrounding US interests in Greenland and even the suggestion of "integrating" Canada into a new continental resource bloc.

- When the US prioritises territorial acquisition and raw power over traditional alliances, where does that leave the UK?

- Is Britain a partner in a shared democratic vision, or simply a passenger on a journey it no longer controls?

Join us as we dismantle the myths of the "Special Relationship" and ask the uncomfortable question:

- In an era of unapologetic American expansionism, can Britain truly rely on its oldest ally?

See you in the Cocktail Room at Saint & Sinner. There is plenty of space to sit, to chat and to mingle.

Please book your free ticket so that I know how many people to expect.
