Lewisham Mayor: Chris Maines

Lewisham Council is a one-party state under Labour, with no proper scrutiny, challenge or transparency.

Labour have failed our borough, presiding over the lowest GCSE scores in London and one of the worst recycling rates in the country, le􀀛ng property developers run riot and ignoring residents at every turn.

Lewisham deserves better – we need a Liberal Democrat Mayor who will listen to local people, fix the Council’s problems and work to make our borough the best it can be.

Lewisham deserves better – we need a Liberal Democrat Mayor who will listen to local people, fix the Council’s problems and work to make our borough the best it can be.

1. Tackle the housing crisis: I will get tough with property developers, ensuring they deliver the 50% target for affordable homes and build more family homes.

2. Better education for all: I will address the failings in Lewisham’s schools and ensure that all young people have the opportunity to thrive. We must support schools to develop an effective action plan to improve GCSE results.

3. A greener Lewisham: I will double our tree planting, treble the number of Electric Vehicle charging points, build more dedicated cycle routes and install Air Quality monitoring points – with an action plans for each recording unacceptable levels of pollution.

4. Safer streets: I will end routine Stop and Search in Lewisham. I will make women's safety a top priority. I will work with the police to improve their community relations.

5. Taking mental health seriously: I will fund and build more resilient mental health services – particularly for children and young adults – and work with our local NHS to ensure the number of GP surgeries increase to meet the demand from new housing.

6. A post-COVID strategy: I will work with local people to develop a “Post-COVID strategy” that acknowledges the changes in work patterns, supports more home working, provides coworking hubs and supports local shopping areas and small businesses.
