I love Hither Green. My Polish grandparents found a warm welcome here as refugees in 1939 and our family have been here ever since. I got into local politics because I have an autistic son and was appalled at the impact of the LTN on the disability transport service that families of children with disabilities rely on. I founded the Facebook group Lewisham Healthy Streets for All and successfully lobbied for the LTN to be reformed and opened up to Blue Badge holders and disability transport, a reform which reduced the traffic displacement onto the Hither Green Lane area. As your Liberal Democrat councillor I will lobby for further reform to the LTN, campaigning for local access and access for blue badge holders on the Greenwich border. Car usage is high in Lewisham because public transport is poor. I will work on a cross party basis with Lewisham Councillors, neighbouring councils and TfL to improve Lewisham's public transport access for all such as supporting the Southwark Supertram extension to the borough on the unused Bakerloo line extension property. Lewisham has the highest number of autistic children in the UK. A large number, like my son, are unable to obtain a secondary school place due to lack of special schools in the borough. If elected I will work to improve educational opportunities for the large number of neurodivergent students in the borough.
I’d like to thank those putting their faith in me on May 5th. A small cross in the Lib Dem box could mean big things for Hither Green. Opposition is healthy and is needed, here in Lewisham.
