Bunmi Wajero, Liberal Democrat candidate in the Evelyn Ward by-election, has donated and planted an Oak tree as part of the Evelyn 200 project.
Bunmi planted her tree with the help of volunteers from Deptford Folk and Trees for Cities, the groups behind the Evelyn 200 project. Their aim is to plant 200 trees to celebrate the first publication of John Evelyn’s diaries two centuries ago.
John Evelyn wrote about trees, air quality, urban design, gardening and horticulture. He lived at Sayes Court Manor in Deptford, long since demolished.
The Evelyn 200 project will help to address the sad truth that today, 200 years later, this area has the lowest number of trees and the worst air quality in the borough of Lewisham.
Bunmi is deeply concerned about local air quality and believes more can be done to improve the situation in our area.
