7 Reasons to vote Lib Dem In Lewisham Deptford

Bobby Dean is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Lewisham Deptford. Here are 7 reasons why you should back Bobby and vote Liberal Democrat in Lewisham Deptford.

Bobby first arrived in the area as a fresher at Goldsmiths in 2008. He was the first in his family to go to University, having grown up in a council house in Essex where his dad is a scaffolder and mum is a cleaner.

He is passionate about stopping Brexit so that we can get on with improving peoples lives for the better. Whether it’s fixing the housing crisis, tackling the climate emergency or making our society more equal and fair.

In Lewisham, the Conservatives are out of the race. Your choice is between Labour and the Lib Dems. Here are 7 reasons why you should back Bobby and vote Liberal Democrat in Lewisham Deptford:

1. A Strong Voice for Remain

Bobby was our candidate in the Snap Election of 2017 and back then was the only person fighting for our place in the European Union. He has been a strong voice for Remain from day one.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn has committed Labour to negotiating a new deal to leave and refuses to take a position on the biggest issue of the day.

2. A Progressive and Credible Manifesto

The Resolution Foundation, an independent think tank focused on improving living standards, said that the Liberal Democrats manifesto was the most progressive, giving the most to the poorest.

Another independent think tank, the Institute for Fiscal Studies, said only the Liberal Democrats spending plans were ‘economically credible’.

Unlike the Conservatives, the Lib Dem plan will improve people’s lives. Unlike Labour, the Lib Dem plan is deliverable.

3. A Serious Climate Emergency Plan

The Liberal Democrats are the only party with an ambitious and detailed plan for the Climate Emergency. We are committed to getting 80% of our electricity from renewable energy by 2030, against airport expansion and will invest £100 billion into a Climate Fund over the course of the next parliament.

The Conservatives barely mention the Climate Emergency in their manifesto. Meanwhile, Labour has more warm words than firm action, failing to commit to a net-zero carbon emissions target, refusing to rule out nuclear energy or airport expansion and talking only of being “on track” at some point in the 2030s.

4. An Honest Funding Plan for the NHS

The Liberal Democrats will raise £7billion a year for the NHS by putting a penny on income tax.

The funds raised will help fill the funding gap and particularly go towards putting Mental Health on an equal footing with physical health and fixing our broken social care system.

This policy is clear and honest about where the money is coming from, so you can trust that the investment the NHS so desperately needs can be delivered.

5. A Champion for Housing

Bobby is a lifelong campaigner on housing, being directly impacted by the crisis himself. He grew up in a council home and is now trapped in the private rental sector - with all of its insecurity and expensive rents.

But he knows that others have it worse. The Liberal Democrats are committed to ending rough sleeping within five years, with a massive programme to build 100,000 homes for social rent a year and resources provided to local councils to provide emergency accommodation.

6. A Radical Increase in Free Childcare

Too many parents have to choose between continuing their careers and raising their children. Too often its mothers that end up staying at home. This isn’t right. The Liberal Democrats are proposing a whole new leg to the welfare state - free childcare.

Working parents would receive 35 hours a week free childcare from the day their baby turns nine months old. It’s a radical and dramatic increase but one that makes our economy fundamentally fairer.

7. A Safe Vote For Change

Many Lewisham voters are fed up with Labour but are worried that if they vote a different way that the Conservatives might win here. They won’t.

In the European Elections in May, the Conservatives finished 6th (behind Change UK!) while the Liberal Democrats topped the polls. The choice in Lewisham Deptford is between Labour and the Lib Dems - so if you want to vote for change, you can.
