Liberal Democrat councillors attended City Hall today to present a petition calling on Transport for London to improve the pedestrian safety at the junction of Courthill Road and Lewisham High Street.

The petition attracted 650 signatures from residents in the area and people faced with crossing the road at this junction. Since local councillor Dave Edgerton launching the petition a serious accident occurred at the junction and a female pedestrian was taken by air ambulance to the London Hospital.

Cllr Edgerton said, "It was a very serious accident that closed the junction for some hours. The lady was seriously injured but is thankfully recovering. It emphasised the point we have been making - this is a very dangerous junction for pedestrians."

The petitioners want TfL to install pedestrian lights at the junction which currently does not provide any break in traffic for people to cross.
