Cllr Pattisson went on patrol with local police officers to find out more about their work

Cllr Pete Pattisson went on patrol with the police last week to find out more about their work. "Many local residents say crime is their top concern and so I wanted to learn more about the way the police work and the challenges they face.

"I was struck by two things in particular. Firstly, that the police have to spend a huge amount of time completing paperwork. If they make an arrest, they must then spend at least the next three or four hours processing it, which means they cannot be out on patrol.

"Secondly, that while a lot is being done to tackle violent crime in Lewisham, there are still daily incidents of gun and knife crime. There are many good initiatives to deal with this issue, and I am involved in one called, ENOUGH! Make Youth Violence History.

"I'd like to thank Sgt. Jackson and his dedicated and professional team at Catford Police Station for letting me join them."
