Lib Dem London Assembly members, Stephen Knight and Caroline Pidgeon are joined by Lewisham Lib Dems Janet Hurst, Councillor Julia Fletcher and Councillor Chris Maines
The Liberal Democrats have handed in a petition at City Hall, signed by 4,300 residents, opposing Boris Johnson’s plans to close Downham Fire Station.
Lib Dem councillor for Downham ward, Julia Fletcher, had previously presented a motion to Lewisham Council opposing the closure of Downham and New Cross fire stations, which Boris Johnson is threatening to close.
Leader of Lewisham’s Lib Dems, Councillor Chris Maines, said, “Boris wasted millions of pounds of tax-payers money on non-essential projects like the Thames cable car and a new type of bus. He will be playing with fire if he closes these fire stations that serve thousands of Londoners.”
