Local residents in Lee will hopefully soon have a safer walk home after a local Lib Dem councillor stepped in to seek improvements to a dangerous crossing.
Councillor Brian Robson had been approached by local residents who were concerned that there is no controlled crossing over the Westhorne Avenue dual carriageway at the junction with Burnt Ash Hill. Residents reported that they often became stranded in the island in the middle of the road, or felt at risk as traffic approached from different directions.
Councillor Robson, who is also the Lib Dem London Assembly candidate for Greenwich and Lewisham, approached Transport for London (who are responsible for the road) and asked for improvements. TfL have now confirmed they are commencing a study to introduce a controlled crossing at the junction, which is part of the busy South Circular.
Commenting, Councillor Robson said, "This is great news for local people, especially those who walk to and from the nearby Lee Railway Station. TfL will be consulting in the new year, and provided local residents agree, we'll hopefully see a controlled crossing of this busy road."
