Research done by Liberal Democrats at the London Assembly shows that more than half of the police stations in Lewisham do not answer the phone for non-emergency enquiries.
Councillor Simon Carter, the Liberal Democrats spokesperson for Community Safety, says
"It's just not acceptable to have 40% of Lewisham's' police stations not pick up the phone. Police stations must pick up the phone if they don't want to risk losing intelligence. When staff in police stations don't answer calls it makes it harder for people to report crime."
The findings show that out of the five stations in the Borough, only Brockley and Deptford stations picked up the phone. Lewisham, Catford and Sydenham did not answer.
