Lee Green Liberal Democrat campaigner Brian Robson has condemned Labour-run Lewisham Council's decision to spend almost £29,000 tinkering with the Council logo.
Brian exposed the huge waste of Council Tax payer's cash when he queried the cost of the changes in a public question at last week's Council meeting. In answer to a question from Mr. Robson, Labour Mayor Steve Bullock admitted that:
* £18,400 has been spent 'refreshing' the Council logo
* A further £10,400 has been spent 'rolling out' the new brand.
The £29,000 'refresh' amounts to little more than changing the word 'Lewisham' from italics to plain text, and making a subtle change to the font used. Council staff have also been issued with a glossy 22-page booklet entitled 'our brand', which explains to them how to use the new logo 'correctly'.
Commenting, Brian Robson said
"Slapping a new logo on council services won't improve them. Nor will pouring £29,000 of council tax payers' cash down the drain. The Labour Mayor has shown once again that he's far more interested in spin than substance."
Notes:
At the Council Meeting on the 1st March, in answer to a public question from Brian Robson (public question 18), it was disclosed that:
"The cost of redesigning the Council's corporate brand image was £18,400 (including redesign of the logo) and £10,400 for costs associated with rolling out the new brand"
