Labour-run Lewisham Spends £8 million on Consultants
Last year Labour-run Lewisham Council spent over £8million on expensive 'consultants' to help with decision making at the Town Hall. And they have already run up nearly £4 million on experts in this financial year.

Consultants were used to advise the Council on the new leisure centre in Downham, which Labour promised would open in 2004, but won't actually be ready until 2007.

“Many councils need to employ specialist consultants for certain types of project, but £8million in one year is excessive”, says Lib Dem Councillor Dan Houghton. “Lewisham Council spends twice as much on consultants as it does on resurfacing and repairing the roads in our borough.”
