Liberal Democrat Councillor Dan Houghton is pressing the Royal Mail for answers with regard to the continued closure of the Ardgowan Road Post Office.
Councillor Houghton, who represents Whitefoot Ward, contacted the Royal Mail at the request of local residents and was astonished when the Royal Mail replied that they "don't even have the details of why the office is closed". The Royal Mail has told customers they should use the Post Office on Springbank Road.
Councillor Houghton said: "That branch is too far away from elderly residents who live on North Downham, Verdant Lane and South Park Crescent in my ward. The Royal Mail have already let customers down in this area by closing down the Verdant Lane Post Office - the Ardgowan Road branch needs to be reopened as quickly as possible".
NOTES:
1) The Royal Mail closed the Verdant Lane Post Office in 2004.
2) The Ardgowan Road branch shut several months ago - residents were informed that it would reopen in 12 weeks.
3) Cllr Houghton contacted the Royal Mail in November, receiving the following reply from June Flynn, Customer Internet Adviser: "The only information we have on Ardgowan Road Post Office is that it is closed 'Until further notice'. I really do apologize for the lack of information, we don't even have the details of why the office is closed."
