Cinema Magic Comes to Lewisham

For the first time this October Lewisham’s school children will be able to join in and experience the magic of cinema during Europe largest free educational film event.

The National School Film Week, will give children across the borough a chance to enjoy a free programme of film screenings, from Hollywood blockbusters to European and World Cinema to animation and classic screen adaptations.

The film listing has been specially created to ensure the films selected have relevant educational potential. Primary and Secondary school teachers will be able to select the most appropriate film for their year group, topic and subject. In addition to being able to take part in film screenings across London there will be for the first film screenings at the Catford Broadway and the Albany.

Downham Ward Councillor Mark Morris welcomed news of the launch, as the first to recognise the overlooked and unique potential for students. Councillor Mark Morris encouraged both Lewisham council and Film Education to ensure that film screening took place in the borough and that local schools were invited to take part in this year’s National School Film Week.

Councillor Mark Morris said: “It is essential that we ensure that Lewisham children and young people are able to benefit from the activities of Film Education. As Lewisham is just one of two London boroughs not to have a cinema this week’s events are of very special importance to Lewisham children.”
